Sturgill Simpson Busks For Social Justice Outside of the CMAs

Last night was the annual Country Music Awards in Nashville, but not all of today’s famed country singers are enamored with the industry. Few more so than Sturgill Simpson, who spent the night outside of Nashville’s Nissan Stadium busking the night away and offering to talk to people about anything related to his philosophies and the current political climate.

Simpson livestreamed the event, where he also gave a mock acceptance speech: “Nobody needs a machine gun, and that’s comin’ from a guy who owns quite a few guns,” he said. “Gay people should have the right to be happy and live their life any way they want to and get married if they want to without fear of getting drug down the road behind a pickup truck. Black people are probably tired of getting shot in the streets and being enslaved by the industrial prison complex. Hegemony and fascism is alive and well in Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you very much.”

Simpson also collected donations during his busking, all of which he donated to the ACLU.

Hamilton to Hit Puerto Rico

Lin-Manuel Miranda announced yesterday that he’s taking Hamilton to Puerto Rico. In further response to the hurricane-caused disaster in native home, Miranda announced a twenty-day stint for the Tony-and Pulitzer-winning hit at San Juan’s Teatro UPR next January in an effort to augment the economical state of the territory by encouraging tourism to the area. And Lin-Manuel Miranda will be reprising his role as Alexander Hamilton for the first time since the show came off its Broadway run.
