Texas Goes to the Grammy’s

The 2017 Grammy Nominations list was revealed yesterday, and the Lone Star State is represented by industry heavyweights and Central Texas specifically has some local favorites on the list. Houston-native Beyonce tops the nominations list with nine nods including Best Album, Record, and Song of the Year. Willie Nelson scoops his first nominations since 2010 with a nod in the Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin. A little more under the radar, Wimberley-born Sarah Jarosz has earned three nominations; she’s up for Best Folk Album for her latest release Undercurrent, which also snagged a Best Engineered Album nod, and the track “House of Mercy” is up for Best American Roots Performance. Austin’s Sarah and Shauna Dodds AKA Backstage Design are nominated for Best Recording Package for Reckless Kelly’s Sunset Motel album. And finally, Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, members of local electronic group S.U.R.V.I.V.E. and co-composers for Netflix sleeper hit Stranger Things, are nominated twice in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category for Stranger Things, Vol. 1 and Stranger Things, Vol. 2. The 59th Annual Grammy Awards air February 12. (Austin 360)
