SXSW Music Keynotes Announced

SXSW is five short weeks away, and we’re well in the festival’s weekly lineup additions, and yesterday they began announcing the speakers for this year’s festival. Mick Fleetwood, Kesha, and Nirvana bassist and activist Krist Novaselic were announced as music keynote’s yesterday, joining Sammy Hagar, B-52s Cindy Wilson, Rachel Ray, and Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova on the roster. Mick Fleetwood’s addition is due largely to the release of his new book, Love That Burns: A Chronicle of Fleetwood Mac, while Kesha will be teaming up with Refinery29’s Amy Emmerich to talk “Social Impact.” Krist Novaselic is a keynote veteran, having spoken at the 1996 festival. Post-Nirvana, Novaselic has gained acclaim as an activist, currently serving as the board chair of FairVote, a nonprofit dealing in democracy issues.

Climatune Pairs You with Weather-tailored, City-Specific Playlists

Spotify and AccuWeather have joined forces to bring Spotify-users worldwide Climatune, a site providing playlists based on local weather and the types of music locals choose to listen to depending on that weather. The website comes after a year-long study that compared 85 billion Spotify streams in over 900 cities. So, if it’s raining in London, your playlist will include Blue Oyster Cult, Crazy Town, and Jason Derulo. Today, it’s bright and sunny in Austin and our playlist includes David Bowie (a lot of it actually), Soft Cell, Die Antwood, HAIM, and LCD Soundsystem. Turn the playlist to windy Witchita, and you get N’SYNC, Blink-182, Jason Aldean, and Trey Songz. I spent some time on Climatune this morning, and the site is colorful, incredibly interactive, and pretty fun to explore too. Check it out for yourself at spotify.com/climatune.
