David Byrne to Host Variety Show Starring His Biggest Sources of Inspiration

David Byrne is readying a staged musical variety show set to take place on June 1st at Town Hall in Manhattan. The variety show is inspired by a new chapter in the latest edition of his 2012 book How Music Works that details the four ways in which we discover music in the digital age: “recommendation by experts, by the music itself, by social and cultural forces, and by narrative and context.” Byrne’s show puts the expert recommendation notion center-stage, curating a bill of performers who have deeply inspired David Byrne himself. Certainly music, Byrne noted in his statement, but also magic, dance, theater, science, and humor to name a few. Despite his decision to not release a line-up ahead of time, the show has nearly sold out leaving only about a dozen tickets up for grabs.

Thom Yorke to Make Fim Composer Debut

Thom Yorke is making his film composer debut writing the score to a “reimagining” of Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic Suspiria. Yorke collaborated with Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja to provide some work for the documentary UK Gold, but Suspiria is the Radiohead frontman’s first time as a solo artist for a feature film. The remake stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloe Grace Moretz and has concluded filming, though no release date has been set. Director Luca Guadgnino praised Yorke’s work and artistic vision, saying his involvement is a dream come true.
