David Simon Pens Musical with Pogues Soundtrack

David Simon, creator of the HBO award-winning crime series the Wire is in the final writing stages of a new Broadway production based around the music of Celtic punk band the Pogues. Simon has his wife, crime novelist Laura Lippman and writer George Pelecanos rounding out his writing team, with Pogues tin-whistle player and former frontman Spider Stacy on board as a consultant. According to Stacy, the musical takes place in an Irish pub in the Hell’s Kitchen district of 1990s New York and will explore the early stages of gentrification in the neighborhood.
