Duran Duran Members are Writing a Musical
In addition to being on tour in support of their latest album, Duran Duran’s John Taylor and Nick Rhodes have been collaborating on a new stage musical. The production isn’t a jukebox musical or the stage-production of the band’s origin; it’s an original production with its own music and story, which the two musicians have been exclusively working on when time while touring allows, though they’ve kept any details regarding the plot on the down low. The duo hopes to have the musical in a workshop stage by early next year.
All Tomorrow’s Parties Ends After 27-year Run
The long-running All Tomorrow’s Party festival has come to a permanent halt. Following months of speculation regarding the festival’s future, All Tomorrow’s Parties announced this morning that the entire live events portion of the company are closing down. Festival creator Barry Hogan had been doing everything in his power to prevent the shut down, which only resulted in a truck-load of false promises to both the musicians who were slated to play this year’s festival, and the fans who had already paid to see them.
L.A. to Host Classical Concert in Salute to Female Composers
On August 19th, L.A.’s Grand Performances series will present “The Women Who Score: Soundtracks Live.” The concert will highlight female composers who have written for film, TV, video games, and other forms of media. The music of 20 female composers will be performed by a 45-piece orchestra, with a program featuring everyone from Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules) to Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman (Heroes) to Bones composer Julia Newman.
