Day Two of RAS Day 2017 Cancelled

Local hip-hop at social justice warriors Chaka and Qi Dada, husband and wife couple behind Body Rock ATX, hip-hop duo Riders Against the Storm, and the related holiday Riders Against the Storm Day (colloquially called RAS Day) announced on Friday that the second day of their annual festival, the all-day outdoor portion held at Kenny Dorham’s backyard has been cancelled.

Scheduled for August 19th, Chaka and Qi said the ticket sales for day 2 were simply too slow, and this, combined with the husband-and-wife team’s other projects, including a European tour this fall, have fizzled out the energy needed to pull off the second day; however, the club night on the 18th at Empire Control Room is still set to go.

In an interview with Austin360, Chaka said the duo will be reevaluating the best way to program two days of RAS Day, as this is the first year the club night has been part of the festivities. He added, “RAS Day is very close to our hearts, very important to us, but our personal well being is also very important to us.” RAS Day organizers will be reaching out to any 2-day pass holders to coordinate a refund.
