!!! has been bringing disco to punk, and punk to disco for over two decades. They formed in Sacramento, California in 1996 after their Yah Mos post-punk outfit disbanded. !!! took their moniker (pronounced “chk chk chk”) from the subtitles of the “The Gods Must Be Crazy” in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens’ Khoisan language were signified by “!”. Their latest release Shake the Shudder was recorded in New York where they pumped out a mammoth 17 songs in four days. Inspired by the current political climate the album stays true to the group’s philosophy of dance-as-defiance; the disco is a misfit safe haven, and to keep dancing through the dark times is a form of protest. It is their tightest, most dance-til-you-drop album to date. !!! brought their devil-may-care attitude to Studio 1A ahead of their show at Empire Control Room. Check out their full session below!
