Badi Assad at KUTX 7.19.13

Multi-talented Badi Assad, famed guitarist and singer from Sao Paulo, Brazil, may have never discovered her passion for guitar had it not been for her two older brothers, who began studying classical guitar and learning how to play during Assad’s childhood. The brothers went on to become known as the Duo Assad, a popular guitar duo, and their sister followed in their footsteps, mastering the guitar at age 14. Her illustrious career began with the release of her first album, “Danca dos Tons” (“Dance of the Tones”) in 1989, and she went on to sign with a record label in 1993. Assad went on to recover from a motor disability that temporarily prevented her from playing guitar, and she is now releasing albums and touring again, playing to her loyal fan base. Assad’s exotic music experiments with innovative sounds, such as percussion sounds that she makes with her mouth, and she sings with an electrifying voice in both English and Portuguese. She has been hailed as one of the best guitar players of her time.

Assad is a part of the Austin Chamber Music Festival, and she performs at the Church of Glad Tidings on July 20th. She also played live in our studio on Friday, July 19th, and you can check it out right here!
