Basketball Shorts 6.28.16

If you dig deep enough into Austin soil you’ll find that this city was built on a solid foundation of Lonestar and punk rock. It’s a history as old as Antone’s Records and Hole in the Wall. Push beyond the craft beer and hot yoga classes, break on through past Dirty Sixth, and sure enough you’ll find Austin’s underbelly full of house shows and garage rock. Local band Basketball Shorts is taking it back to basics with a brand new album of pure “Texas party punk.” Basketball Shorts have the power to start a one man mosh-pit and the energy to make the host ignore all the beer soaking into the rug.

The band’s new album Hot and Ready was released June 17th on Fleeting Youth Records, an Austin label that specializes in vinyl pressings and cassette tapes. Full of wisecracks and cinematic references, each song on the new release is lyrical gold (see tracks “Romo to Dez” and “Kevin McCallister.”) For fans of Joyce Manor, White Reaper, Together Pangea, and Wavves, you won’t be disappointed.

Celebrate the new record with Basketball Shorts this Thursday June 30th at Cheer Up Charlies pick up a copy of Hot and Ready. Adam, Ben, Bench, and Darren visited Studio1A today, stream the performance down below.
