Ben Watt @ KUTX 12.4.14

Even after three decades, Ben Watt still has more to offer from his extensive musical exploration.

Since 1981 Watt has been involved in a variety of musical projects and has traversed several genres in the process. Alongside his wife Tracey Thorn, Watt comprised one half of the duo Everything but the Girl from 1982 to the group’s disbanding in 2000. In the mid ’90s Watt began gravitating towards production as a DJ and remixer, focusing on deep house with his Lazy Dog compilation series. With the conclusion of the series in 2003, Watt launched his electronic label Buzzin’ Fly, following up with the launch of indie and alternative label Strange Feelings Records in 2007.

In addition to his work as a record label owner and radio presenter, Watt has made a return to his solo singer-songwriting efforts. The release of his second studio album Hendra earlier this year showcased more of an acoustic and downtempo sound, but still remained in touch with Watt’s folk-jazz roots heard on his 1983 solo debut. Hendra notibly features collaboration with Bernard Butler across the album as well as one song with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.

You can catch Ben Watt on Thursday, December 4th at the Cactus Cafe or you can stream him right here at KUTX!
