Where do you begin to tell Bill Carter’s storied career? Since he moved to Austin over forty years ago, he wrote the #1 hit “Crossfire” with his co-writer wife, Ruth Ellsworth, and Christ Layton, Tommy Shannon, and Reese Wynans (AKA Double Trouble),  penned “Anything Made of Paper” with his friend Johnny Depp and performed on Late Show with David Letterman, and has had songs covered by John Mayall, Robert Palmer, to Waylon Jennings.

Carter just released his ninth studio album, Innocent Victims and Evil Companions. The new record features his legendary songwriting and an all-star lineup of Austin musicians including Charlie Sexton and Danny Freeman (Bob Dylan’s current and former guitarists), drummer Dony Wynn (Robert Palmer, Charlie Mars), and the Tosca String Quartet who have played with the Dixie Chicks to David Byrne.

Catch him tonight at the Monkey Nest tonight, the Continental Club on March 11th, and C-boy’s Heart and Soul on March 12th. Check out Bill Carter’s Studio 1A session at the bottom of the page featuring Gabriel Rhodes on guitar.
