Brian Beattie, a long-time Austin musician (Glass Eye) and producer (Okkervil River, Shearwater, Daniel Johnston, and more) is trying on a new hat. Beattie and a slew of other notable musicians and artists have teamed up to create Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase, which has been described as an “ear movie musical.” Beattie’s team (including Daniel Johnston, Bill Callahan, Will Sheff, Kathy McCarty, and James Hand) have crafted a beautifully illustrated story-book with a musical audio component. That is, the story is told through song, dialogue, and sound effects, as well as illustrations and words. The end product is a feast for the eyes and ears. Listen to Brian talk about Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase and sing some tunes live on KUTX January 9, 2014 at 2 p.m.
