Calexico

When you think of the band Calexico, you probably think of their distinctly southwestern sound. Since founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino first started playing together, they’ve been playing their hallmark roots country/Latin music. When you think of New Orleans, those aren’t exactly the sounds that come to mind. Yet that’s where the band chose to record their seventh album, Algiers. It was a deliberate choice, an effort to sort of shake things up, and it worked. Influence from the city they recorded in leaked in, creating something entirely new, but still not far off from their hallmark sound.

They be stopped by Studio 1a to play live before their show at Emo’s. Be sure to listen!
