I’m not sure if “Desert New-Wave” is an actual genre, but that’s the perfect way to describe Austin’s Canvas People. It creates an alternative music sound that can only be found in Texas, and Canvas People have managed to create something refreshing. Kyle Taylor’s vocals are powerful, but not overbearing, so it balances out with the huge guitar riffs and heavy drums. They take the sound of the 2000s that defined bands like Death Cab for Cutie, and build upon it to modernize it, but with a taste of Austin. Canvas People stopped by Studio 1A, and they are celebrating the release of their new EP this Saturday at the Mohawk with Ruby and the Reckless.
