Christopher Cross at KUTX 7.26.13

Though Christopher Cross is now an international star, known for his ballads and contemporary pop tunes, he had his start right here in Austin. Our own Jay Trachtenberg, who was here in Austin in the late 1970s, remembers Cross playing UT frat parties around 1978, just two years before he released his number one Grammy award-winning hit, “Sailing”. He went on to win five Grammy’s in 1981, including Best New Artist. Continuing his winning streak, he also won an Academy Award for “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” for smash Dudley Moore comedy film “Arthur”. He has released eight albums throughout his career, charting eight songs on the Top 40 between 1980 and 1983. Cross has continued recording and performing all over the world, averaging about 100 live shows per year, and his latest album is called “Doctor Faith,” released in 2011. Cross is currently touring on his “No Hits Acoustic Show.”
