Dan Mangan @ KUTX 11.13.14

Dan Mangan is back from the forge with a freshly-casted sound.

Based in Vancouver, Dan Mangan and his backing band Blacksmith have been grinding their brand of indie folk rock since forming in 2003. In the past decade Mangan has released three EPs and three full-lengths as a solo artist. In 2012 Mangan brought home the JUNO Awarf for New Artist of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year for his third full-length Oh Fortune. The same year Mangan was the recipient of three Western Canadian Music Awards: Rock Album of the Year, Independent Album of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.

Lately Dan Mangan + Blacksmith have been touring to promote their long-awaited fourth full-length album Club Meds, due for release in January 2015. Club Meds is a step in a different direction for Mangan, who with the help of Blacksmith is now exploring more synth and loop-based music. Mangan has spent months meticulously editing the album, adding and subtracting hundreds of layers of noise and subtext. The result is something incredibly complex and personal, and a product of years of Mangan’s dedication and work. You can catch Dan Mangan on Thursday, November 13th at The Parish!
