Danny Schmidt 3.23.16

An obsession with Mississippi John Hurt inspired Austin based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt to buy his first guitar. In the twenty six years since the blues legend nudged a young Schmidt into the music life, Schmidt has amassed a cult following for his poetic and moving imagery. With lyrical depth drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt, Schmidt is considered a preeminent writer, an artist whose earthy poetry manages to somehow conjure magic from the mundane.

Schmidt and his wife Carrie Elkin (who has a celebrated solo career as well) joined us in Studio 1A this week. Listen to the session at the bottom of the page, and see him at the Cactus Cafe this Thursday, March 24th. Doors at 8:00, show starts at 8:30.
