Darden Smith at KUTX 9.6.13

Darden Smith is one of our favorite artists here at KUTX, so we were understandably excited when he stopped by our studio for a live performance on Friday. His 28-year career has been a unique and interesting one, and has redefined what it means to be a musician. His interest in music began when he was in the local church choir as a young boy, and these days, he cites Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, and John Prine as some of his influences. He had many artistic shifts throughout his career, including scoring three full-length works for a local theatre/dance group, and eventually writing a symphony for the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Darden Smith is truly a dynamic musician, weaving together folk and Americana with pop, rock, and the musical roots of his home state of Texas. His newest album, “Love Calling,” marks a milestone in his career, and is a great listen.

His performance in our Studio 1A was a great one – take a listen!
