Eric Johnson @ KUTX 8.14.15

Eric Johnson has been all over the Austin music scene since before he finished high school.

At the age of 15 Johnson joined his first professional band, a psych-group called Mariani, and in 1968 recorded a demo which has now become an extremely rare and prized collector’s item. After playing and recording with local fusion group The Electromagnets (which disbanded in 1977), Johnson formed a touring trio (the Eric Johnson Group)  and recorded his first full-length album, Seven Worlds. Johnson found work as a session guitarist for the likes of Cat Stevens and Christopher Cross until being signed to Warner Bros Records in 1984 and releasing his major label debut, Tones, in 1986.

Since then Johnson has enjoyed local and national success both as a songwriter and a touring guitarist, particularly in 1991 when he won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the single Cliffs of Dover off of his platinum-selling full-length, Ah Via Musicom. He has released 8 studio albums and 3 live albums, with his most recent album ECLECTIC released by Concord Music in August 2014.

You can catch Eric Johnson on Friday, August 14th at the Paramount Theatre or you can stream him right here at KUTX!
