Longtime Austin singer-songwriter Ethan Azarian has a talent for drawing listeners in with his conversational lyrics that are at turns confessional and humorous. He might sing of California dreams, but Azarian is proud to be an Austin resident where he has played music for almost 30 years after starting as part of the band Orange Mothers. His soft acoustic folk unites feelings both intimate and universal with a haunting edge through the effective use of a musical saw. Azarian dropped by Studio 1A to play an old favorite and new material ahead of his third annual concert and art sale at The Cactus Cafe. Azarian, also a graphic artist, will have paintings for sale at the show. He performed with his collaborators and friends, Jeff Johnston and Lindsey Verrill, who played the saw and cello, respectively. Catch Azarian’s performance this Saturday, January 25, with Alice Spencer kicking things off at 8:30 pm.
