Gina Chavez @ KUTX 8.25.15

Gina Chavez wants to light up a stage near you!

Raised on the music of Lyle Lovett, Little Richard, and Michael Jackson, and inspired by a Toni Price performance at the Continental Club, Gina Chavez began her songwriting career at age 18. Although Chavez got her start playing gigs around the University of Texas, it wasn’t until she heard the la chacarera folkloric six-count Latin rhythm and was inspired by the nueva cancíon movement that she found her voice. In 2007 Chavez released her debut album Hanging Spoons and in 2014 she released her critically acclaimed follow-up up.rooted.

Now backed by a six-piece band, Chavez has claimed a prominent stake in the Live Music Capital. An eight-time Austin Music Award winner, Chavez and her band swept the 2015 awards, winning Musician of the Year, Album of the Year (up.rooted), Song of the Year (Siete-D) and Best Latin Band.

You can check out Gina Chavez on Wednesday, August 25th at the All ATX: All Along the Moontower Festival at the Moody Theater and you can stream her right here at KUTX!
