Girl in a Coma @ KUTX 9.22.14

Girl in a Coma came together in San Antonio when best friends Jenn Alva and Phanie Diaz met in a junior high art class over a shared love of the Smiths, Nirvana, and skipping school. Phanie’s younger sister, Nina impressed the two with her powerhouse voice that has since been compared by critics to Bjork, Patsy Cline, and Morrissey. Girl in a Coma was signed to Blackheart Records on the spot by Joan Jett and Kenny Laguna after a performance at New York’s Knitting Factory in 2006.
Following two critically acclaimed albums, GIAC travelled to Austin to work with Spoon and Trail of Dead producer Mike McCarthy on their album Exits & All the Rest. The analog tracking for Exits captures the raw energy and power that has remained a staple of Girl in a Coma’s live shows, all the while showcasing the depth and maturity of their songwriting.

Melding punk, tejano, rockabilly, and indie rock, Girl in a Coma brings a taste of San Antonio flavor to Studio 1A.
