Golden Suits at KUTX 10.2.13

Golden Suits is the solo venture of Fred Nicolaus, perhaps best known for his membership in Department of Eagles, the college-conceived psychedelic electro-folk project led by Nicolaus and Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear fame. The new project emerges from an arguably overwhelming year for Nicolaus, composed in part by a tough breakup, a firsthand account of his grandfather’s death in WWII Germany, and an unfortunate rat infestation. Golden Suits provides a therapeutic outlet for Nicolaus, allowing him to experiment with his songwriting and to “take a straightforward, direct song and play with it until there’s something interesting going on.” Inspired in part by author John Cheever, the music of Golden Suits tend toward innovative pop songs coated with enigmatic yet nostalgic lyrics.
