Hurray for the Riff Raff @ KUTX 03.07.2015

New Orleans based collective Hurray for the Riff Raff make music within the realm of indie-folk, skirting the line between tradition and contemporary experience.

Formed and helmed by Alynda Lee Segarra, a singer, songwriter, and banjo player with a clear and effortlessly commanding voice, Hurray for the Riff Raff have been injecting long lost variety and breadth within genre parameters since forming in 2006. An elegant amalgamation of folk, roots music, Americana, blues, and elements of the Southern gothic, their expansive sound has been cultivating an equally diverse audience. Echoing Segarra’s proclivity toward social responsibility, their last release, Small Town Heroes, was a politically conscious offering culled from her disparate influences, a portrait of daily existence possessing an inherently dramatic flair that is presented in a disarmingly direct manner.
