JD McPherson channels the three R’s of 1950s retro: rock n’ roll, rhythm and blues, and rockabilly.
Oklahoma-born McPherson enjoys the juxtaposition of classic and fresh, aspiring to recording giants Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Fats Domino while drawing inspiration from more contemporary artists like Pixies and the Wu-Tang Clan. McPherson also dabbles in visual art, but has found the most success and exposure through his recording career. His 2012 album Signs and Signifiers was immediately met with praise from critics like Rolling Stone and reached the #1 spot on the US Heat chart.
Lately McPherson has been touring the United States in anticipation of a new record that will be released in early 2015, when he will embark on a European tour. You can catch JD McPherson’s next show on October 23rd at The Belmont.
