Jesse 6.19.17

Jesse Jerome Jenkins V is a man with a lot of names and even more talent. The bassist of Texan quartet Pure X has embarked on his solo career as Jesse. This month sees the release of his much anticipated full length album Hard Sky. While Pure X created muggy psychedelia, Jesse’s approach is more languid; his licks are jazzier, the tempo is slower and the result is a folky, bluesy Americana; a sound uniquely his own. Hard Sky is Jesse on display from the inside out; he sings, he plays and he laments the highs and lows of life. The album features percussion and saxophone by Pure X’s Austin Youngblood, while Kyle Dixon of S U R V I V E adds an ethereal element with use of synthesizers and other effects. These, along with other collaborations, thicken the record’s sound and give the solo effort the feel of a creative family reunion. Jesse brought his relaxed and roomy tunes to Studio 1A ahead of his album release show at End of an Ear. Check out the full session below!
