Jesse Sublett is formative to the live music scene in Austin. His band, The Skunks were instrumental in setting Austin apart as the “live musical capital of the world.” Of course, The Skunks were not Jesse’s only claim to fame; the man has played with The Go-Go’s, Elvis Costello, Blondie, The Clash, Patti Smith, and Mick Taylor (ex-guitarist for The Rolling Stones), to list just some. These days you can catch Sublett playing around Austin as part of various club ensembles, The Murder Ballad Show and Jesse Sublett’s Big Three Trio. The songs are of a bluesier, darker nature–dealing with themes of despair, chaos, and murder; Jesse’s gritty vocals cut like a knife.
