Jitterbug Vipers 04.12.16

Austin quartet, The Jitterbug Vipers create music that sounds like something you’d hear in a packed, dimly lit speakeasy in the 1930’s, with a distinct, fresh twist to it. With a blending of psychedelia and swing or, “swingadelic”, the Vipers have a sound unique to modern indie music, going off the beaten path and have forging their own way. Founded in 2007, the band consists of Bree Romeo on vocals, Francie “Meaux Jeaux” White on stand up bass, Masumi Jones on drums and Greg Harkins on guitar, filling the void left behind by beloved member, the late Slim Richey. Influences from Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie are heard immediately with the band’s jazzy groove sound, however, one also can pick up on the psyche rock vibes reminiscent of Jerry Garcia.

The Jitterbug Vipers were kind of enough to stop by Studio 1A and showcase their music for us. The band will be performing in Driftwood at The Salt Lick this Thursday as part of Old Settler’s Music Festival so get tickets while you can! If you missed their live studio session, we got you covered, you can stream it right here, on KUTX.
