Joel Guzman @ KUTX 04.23.2015

by Marla 04.27.2015

Joel Guzman is not just a man behind a squeezebox. He is also a composer, songwriter, and singer, to name a few. What started as a birthday present soon became his life. His talent was apparent at a very early age, earning him the nickname “El Pequeño Gigante”, The Little Giant, by respected accordion players. He currently forms part of Los Aztex, a collaboration that started back in 1999 with versatile vocalist, Sarah Fox. The group incorporates a variety of styles from South and Central Texas blended with blues, jazz and other Latin themes from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Panama. Members are Zeke Galvan on drums and percussion, Gabriel Guzman on acoustic and electric guitars, and Mark Epstsein on upright and electric bass.

As founders of Squeezebox Mania,  Fox and Guzman have been bringing the best accordion players to the city of Austin, Texas. This year’s event took place this past Saturday, April 25, at Threadgill’s World Headquarters.
