Kara Grainger 7.5.18

Blues and R&B are undoubtedly one of our country’s greatest exports. Their ability to transcend class, culture, and ethnicity made it possible for a young girl growing up in Sydney, Australia to pick up a guitar and start writing songs that would eventually land her onstage and in the studio with some of the best musicians in the United States. In fact, when Kara Grainger set out to record her new album, Living With Your Ghost, she chose Wire studios in Austin and asked local legend J.J. Johnson to join her on drums along with the Texas Horns and Ivan Neville on keys. The result is a groove-heavy blues album with searing electric guitar solos and soulful vocals à la Carolyn Wonderland or Bonnie Raitt. Take a listen to her recent session in Studio 1A and take the opportunity to catch Kara Grainger at one of her upcoming Texas tour stops.
