Lead guitarist and vocalist for the North Mississippi Allstars and former lead guitarist for The Black Crowes, Luther Dickinson is out with a solo acoustic record, Rock ‘n Roll Blues (March 18, 2014). Although known for his electric guitar virtuoso, Luther’s true love happens to be the acoustic guitar. In fact, Dickinson’s said that, “playing electric guitar is my life’s work, but acoustic guitar is the love of my life. My house is filled with acoustic guitars; I don’t have any amps in the house.” As with any solo album, the record is more reflective of Luther’s personal tastes as an artist. There isn’t any need to adapt his vision to realize that of a group’s, such as is the case when crafting an album as part of a band. While he’s known for blues and rock, the album is also punk-rock in spirit and in its stripped down, DIY approach–an aspect reflective of Luther’s earlier taste in music.
