Austin’s hip hop five-piece Magna Carda radiate uncompromising ease and cool.
Started by duo Megz Kelli and Dougie Do in 2012 and expanding to their current line up including Eric “The Greek” Nikolaides on guitar, Derek Van Wagner on bass, and Michael Gonzales on drums, the group are comfortably starting to claim their space in Austin’s music scene one release at a time.
Fresh off the heals of 2014’s Van Geaux and Van Geaux Remixes, the group have wasted no time consolidating their wide ranging influences into sonic samples that play with confident warmth and effortless swagger for their latest release. Their second full-length in a year, Like It Is was released in mid-December and is a refined, fun, and contemplative listen. The ease of Kelli’s clear and direct delivery glides over each track’s crisp beats and soaring guitars, showered with a taste of jazz and neo-soul.
