Margaret Chavez 2.7.18

It’s always fun watching an established musician experiment with their sound. That’s especially true for Marcus William Striplin, whose Dallas based alt-country/rock outfit Pleasant Grove helped define the North Texas sound in the early 2000s. Now after nearly 20 years with that group, Striplin is stepping out on his own with Margaret Chavez, a project named after his mother. While the vocals and lyrics will probably sound familiar to Pleasant Grove fans, the sonic landscapes Striplin composed for Margaret Chavez manage to simultaneously sound sparser yet more expansive than his previous music. Listen to his recent session from Studio 1A in the player below and hear it for yourself!
