Monks of Gaden Shartse @ KUTX 3.24.15

The Monks have returned to Austin after a three-year absence and they’re kicking off a tour of the Live Music Capital!

The Monks of Ganden Shartse‘s tour of Austin extends from March 23rd to April 18th. The mission of the tour is to raise funds for the Monks’ monastery in southern India. These tours are the sole means of income for these schools and in turn, they educate children and young adults, provide health care (as well as to the local population) – all free of charge.

Scheduled events in Austin include an evening of Monks and momos (food prepared by the monks), talks and Q&A’s, chanting offerings, empowerments, personal healings and blessings, and the creation of a sacred work of art – Sand Mandala, at City Hall. At various events, they will also be selling jewelry, scroll paintings (Thangkas), incense, CDs,
prayer flags and other goods made in Tibet and Nepal.

You can check out the Monks of Gaden Shartse around town until April 18th and you can stream them right here at KUTX!
