Will Sheff, frontman of rock outfit Okkervil River uses the context in which he lives to craft meaningful and timely music. After the 2016 election, a death in the family, and introspection, Sheff wrote Away, an album filled with personal effects and marking their Sheff’s departure from traditional rock’n’roll. Their most recent album, In The Rainbow Rain, includes Sheff’s most personal writing yet. With writing and musicality that makes you feel like a close friend of his, Sheff has created a gentle and life-affirming album that imbues a sense of community to whoever is listening to it. Okkervil River will be playing tonight at the Mohawk Austin as part of the Hot Luck Festival, so listen to their Studio 1A session below to get into the groove!
