Peter Wagner & Carey Bowman 4.7.16

Peter Wagner and Carey Bowman capture the true essence of Texas music with such authenticity that one can hear it echo throughout their songs. A sound that is caked with a red dirt and blue collar tones. Getting away from the indie rock culture of Austin, Wagner went out west to find the sound that makes up Texas country, what he found was a calloused culture built on sweat and oil. Wagner captured that energy and wove it into his music for his latest album, Grasshopper. Carey Bowman, singer-songwriter for the Coffee Sergeants, adds his outstanding lap steel guitar playing to the mix, binding with Wagner’s tone smoothly. Together, Wagner and Bowman have a sound that cuts deep with Wagner’s chilling vocals and Bowman’s gorgeous haunting lap steel, bringing to mind the rugged, vacant, rural landscape of West Texas.

Peter Wagner and Carey Bowman stopped by Studio 1A on Thursday and played some of their music for us. They will be playing at the Cactus Cafe this Saturday, April 9th, at 8:00 p.m. so get tickets while you can. If you missed their studio session, we have you covered, you can stream them here, on KUTX.
