Ray Benson, front man of Austin’s Asleep At The Wheel, is putting out his first solo album in over a decade. A Little Piece is a bit darker and more intimate than most of Benson’s previous work. It features songs that came from a place of personal struggle for the musician. He admits to realizing the old cliche that tragedy inspires great art, making this possibly the most personal and telling album in the musician’s almost half-century career. Benson wanted to do things differently for this record, including exploring different rhythms and trying out Latin, folk, and rock touches. Get a little piece of A Little Piece during Benson’s live studio performance at KUTX backed by four-piece Milk Drive January 20, at 2 p.m. You can also check out his in-store Waterloo Records release party January 21.
