Singer and songwriter Robert Ellis got his start with a residency at Houston club Fitzgerald’s Whiskey Wednesday nights, a night that was exactly what it sounded like: a drunken throwback to classic country and bluegrass music. That drunken throwback evolved into Ellis writing his own songs,  which were still vaguely reminiscent of that classic country style. He self-released his first album in 2010, which received such an overwhelmingly positive response that he was quickly scooped up by a label to release a second album the next year. His newer album, Photographs, was named one of the 50 best albums of 2011 by American Songwriter’s Magazine. His brand of country/folk is not to be missed.

On Friday night, Robert Ellis will play a show as a part of the KUX Live at Stateside and the Paramount concert series at, you guessed it, the Stateside at the Paramount. Today he stopped by Studio 1a to play live on KUTX. Give the session a listen below!
