Memory is the full force driving the idea behind folk-punk Columbus band Saintseneca’s newest album release, Pillar of Na. You may have already guessed it from the title… yes this is a direct reference to the Genesis story of Lot’s wife. Frontman Zac Little approaches this classic tale with a refreshing take on what it means to “look back”. If you are familiar with the bible story, you will recall that God sends angels to warn Lot and his family to flee the wicked city of Sodom before he lets it burn and perish completely. He also tells them not to look back. Lot’s wife is the only one who can’t help but take one last look, and as a result is turned into a pillar of salt. Little begs the question: is it not necessary to look back from where you came from in order to make sense of it? In a time where we always hear the phrase “never look back”, Little picks apart the value behind revisiting and re-examining the past from both a collective and more personal lens.
