Guitarist and vocalist Shawn Phillips has been described as “the best kept secret in the music business.” Born in Fort Worth in 1943, Phillips worked with some big names as a session musician in the 1960s and 1970s including Donovan, Eric Clapton, and Steve Winwood. Philips has also excelled as a singer-songwriter, having released around twenty studio albums since 1964, four of which reached the Billboard Top 100. Although Phillips is typically associated with folk-rock his music has never been confined to any one genre, dabbling with jazz, progressive, pop, and classical over the years.
Nowadays Phillips lives with his family in Port Elizabeth, South Africa where he divides his time between writing, recording, touring, and working for the National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa. You can catch Shawn Phillips on Tuesday, November 4th as he performs at the Cactus Cafe or tune into KUTX!
