While she started her music career in the Houston area, Shelley King has called Austin home since 1992. She’s racked up quite the list of achievements since, including being named the Official Texas State Musician in 2008, winning numerous Austin Music Awards, and releasing 9 records. Her latest, Kick Up Your Heels, was released earlier this month after a 4 year gap. “We actually started recording this record a couple years back,” King recalls.  “I put it away for the better part of a year thinking it wasn’t the right record, and then I went back and listened to the tracks and was like – ‘What’s wrong with me? These are fine!’ So we started working on it again, and I’m happy that it’s out.” As the title suggests, Kick Up Your Heels is a record largely about having some fun. It features an A-list of special guests including Marcia Ball, the Subdudes, Carolyn Wonderland, Tony Redman, Byron Isaacs, Delbert McClinton and Cindy Cashdollar.
