Growing up, accordionist Joel Guzman was considered a child prodigy. He was known among fellow (much older) accordion players as “El Pequeño Gigante,” or the small giant. Today he is one of the world’s most prominent accordionists in the world, playing music spanning and bending genres such as Tejano, jazz, country, salsa, R&B and rock. In addition to his instrumental talent, Guzman is a gifted vocalist, innovator, arranger and producer.
On Saturday, Joel Guzman will headline Squeezebox Mania, a festival celebrating all things accordion at Threadgill’s World Headquarters. 2013 is the seventh year the festival will be held. Tomorrow afternoon, he’ll stop by KUTX to play live from Studio 1a at 2pm. Don’t miss it!
