Stef Chura 7.22.19

Detroit based artist Stef Chura stopped into Studio 1A after her band’s show at Mohawk the night before to play songs off of their newest release Midnight out on Saddle Creek Records. After a random run-in with Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest in Chicago, a collaborative duo was born and Toledo helped record and produce her second record entirely with a dual focus on lyrical clarity and a step away from her first release Messes.

On Messes, Chura’s voice tended to be hidden behind a wall of electric guitars and harsh drums but on this second release, her voice is front and center guiding the album from start to finish. Ahead of more stops on the road in the US and Europe, Stef Chura and her band played a few new songs, talked about the unique cross-section of the Detroit music scene, their experience with SXSW, and the band’s go-to karaoke songs.
