The Rocketboys 5.30.17

Austin indie rockers The Rocketboys have long been mainstays of the local music scene. Formed in 2005 The Rocketboys originally set out to make the music they wanted to hear, regardless of commercial appeal. Their latest release, Certain Circles, is an earnest reflection of their last decade in music and a conscious effort to return to their founding innocence. Abandoning expensive LA studios for Lead Singer Brandon Kinder’s Austin home; the band had the freedom and time to experiment and hone their sound. Live show staples have been thickened and perfected in recording; poppy track “The Land that No One Promised Us” has been stripped back to rely on a simple, seventh chord piano that better suits the melancholy lyrics. Newer songs like “You’re Just Going to Let Me Down Again” combine angst-ridden lyrics with catchy melodies and clear, ringing guitar. Certain Circles is a feast of lush, layered sound and soaring harmonies. It may bring longtime fans nostalgia, but it proves to be The Rocketboys most creative and musically mature sound to date. They stopped past studio 1A to play some of their favorite tracks ahead of their hometown release show at Mohawk.
