Tigran at KUTX 10.31.13

Tigran Hamasyan is an Armenian pianist who is on a roll. The 24-year-old began playing piano at age three, when he would figure out how to play pop songs on the piano. Tigran’s music is a mix of his jazz improvisation fused with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia, and he also uses exotic instruments such as the duduk, shvi, and zurna. He released his first album World Passion in 2006, and since then, he has won a French Grammy award, collaborated with several famed musicians including Trilok Gurtu and Dhafer Youssef, and received accolades from piano legend Herbie Hancock.

Tigran brought his fresh sound to our studio this week, and you can check out his performance right here! Take a listen.
