My KUTX: Erika Wennerstrom

Erika Wennerstrom is the KUTX Artist of the Month for March. Photo by Briana Burser.

Erika Wennerstrom is known primarily for leading Heartless Bastards, an Ohio band that’s slotted in nicely here in Austin over the past decade, thanks to the group’s penchant for countrified rock and roll. With the band on a break, Wennerstrom is striking out with Sweet Unknown on March 23, her solo debut. Trips to the Amazon and Big Bend inspired some of the songs, and you can hear it: Wennerstrom’s sky-scraping voice is perfectly matched to music that’s a little bit more psychedelic than in the past.

This week on My KUTX, Wennerstrom returns as our guest DJ to play more of her favorite songs, ranging from country and soul to Afrobeat. Listen to My KUTX on Saturday, March 17, 6 to 7 p.m. or listen anytime at the bottom of the page.
