Ones To Watch: Haelos

All this week, KUTX profiles the Ones To Watch—seven must-see artists at SXSW 2019. Hosted by Jody Denberg/produced by Art Levy. Hear an audio version of this at the bottom of the page.

For years, London’s Lotti Benardout, Dom Goldsmith, and Arthur Delaney sang in other bands, but in 2014, they teamed up as Haelos. The three collaborate on the band’s songwriting, so Haelos’ music often takes its time, building up piece by piece. It takes cues from London’s famed forward-thinking electronic and dance scenes, but it also has enough of a pop edge to keep the songs spinning in your head for days.

After a critically-acclaimed first album, Haelos added touring member Daniel Vildosola on a permanent basis. The quartet spent a year crafting their new record, Any Random Kindness, and they almost broke up in the process. There’s tension in these new songs, but that’s what makes Haelos’ music so enticing.
