The Paramount Theater and KUTX 98.9 are proud to announce their partnership on a new music series, KUTX Live At Stateside and Paramount. These two popular, respected Austin music institutions are joining forces to feature live performances of eclectic, world-class talent from near and far, beginning with Kat Edmonson on April 6 and Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau on April 20.

The partnership will be a collaborative one in which the Paramount and KUTX 98.9 jointly book talent and create new opportunities for audiences to experience live performances from the artists they hear on KUTX.

“We couldn’t be more honored to join forces with this important Austin music staple,” said Paramount Theatre Executive Director Jim Ritts. “KUTX has such an important impact on the city’s musical landscape, and we’re thrilled to provide our venues that will allow them to bring you all some moving and exciting programming.”

The music series will include six or more shows over the next six months, beginning with Kat Edmonson at the Paramount. More on the additional performances will be announced soon.

“Part of the KUTX 98.9 mission is to connect music fans to unique live music experiences,” said KUTX 98.9 Program Director Matt Reilly. “What better way to deliver the Austin Music Experience than at the Stateside and Paramount Theaters, two of Austin’s most storied performance venues?”

Donors and members of both organizations will have access to preferred seating and additional benefits. Details on the first two shows are below.

Acclaimed jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and singer/mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile (Punch Brothers) perform as a duo in a very rare evening with two of America’s most groundbreaking young musicians. Both artists are inspired by a wide range of composers and songwriters, from Bach to Radiohead, and the duo will explore the beauty and intricacies of form and improvisation via a variety of their favorite tunes and original compositions. The Guardian said of a recent London performance by Mehldau and Thile: “Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right brought the house down through Thile’s sympathetic singing and increasingly animated improv-swapping between the pair. The two ought to have got under each other’s feet, given the thinness of the mandolin’s sound, and their mutual appetite for blizzards of notes. But their musicality and sympathy for each other’s emerging ideas, made it an unexpected tour de force.”
