Taylor Wallace’s Top Tracks of 2017

Taylor Wallace is music host Thursday 8 – 11 p.m. and Saturday 2 – 6 p.m. Check out her top 5 songs of the year:

1) Go Fever – Surprise! I Never Loved You

Current Project ATX6’er Acey Monaro brilliantly weaves a rock and roll tapestry of cool, fun, and anything but vanilla and laces it with the razored tongue of a hardened heart. The ultimate break-up metaphor, this song is fun and catchy on the surface, but underneath lie lyrics of pain, comeuppance, and integrity.

2) Magic Rockers of Texas – Cure My Eyes

When I first heard this song, I literally shifted back in my seat. Jim Campo’s grit-throated vocals growl powerfully over this paragon of hard-hitting, garage rock excellence.

3) A Giant Dog – Bendover

Sweet Spirit’s evil twin does it again. The shape and momentum of this punk rock crusher are congruent with its naughty nature. Slow, randy builds peppered with quick flashes of lustful intensity that eventually….explode.

4) Ty Segall – Break A Guitar

The opening track to Segall’s second eponymous album is proof of why he’s truly the rising king of modern garage rock. Bloated with fuzz, quick turns, and enough heart-pounding intensity to make you need to take a break before track two.

5) Lizzo – Truth Hurts

The title says it all, but I will say this. The first time I heard this song, I literally listened to it 7 times in a row to learn all the words. The Queen of Hard Reality and Female Empowerment does it again!
